News Flash | Latest Access Requirements for Power Batteries of Road Vehicles in Taiwan
Following the release of a draft regulation on August 25, 2025, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), Ministry of Economic Affairs, officially announced on December 24, 2025, that secondary lithium-ion battery packs for road vehicles would be added as a mandatory inspection item. The inspection standard is CNS 16160 (2023 edition), and it is stipulated that it will be mandatory from July 1, 2027.
Scope of application (enterprises need to confirm this carefully)
According to the announcement, this specification applies to:
- Category M and N electric road vehicles with a speed exceeding 25 km/h
- Secondary lithium-ion battery packs for vehicles
- Battery capacity ≤ 100 kWh
